The legislative deliberations on the Law on the Governance of Aceh

The legislative deliberations on the Law on the Governance of Aceh

21 September 2007

by Sebastian Braun *

Dili Update – Notes from my visit to Dili February/March 2007

Dili Update – Notes from my visit to Dili February/March 2007

06 March 2007

By Henri Myrttinen

Overall Situation

The situation in Dili continues to be defined by the on-going violence, which tends to fluctuate in terms of its intensity and the stated reasons for it seem to change with time. What a year ago was a conflict within the security forces became a sectarian loro monu/loro sa’e conflict, this then morphed into fights between various gangs, most notably PSHT vs. 7-7. During the course of the approximately 3 weeks which I ... read more

Don’t Hang Banners, But Ban Corruption

Don’t Hang Banners, But Ban Corruption

29 June 2006

By Alex Flor

„I can’t recall how I got out here, but somehow I did. I was sleeping when it happened,” says Pak Ridwan (not his real name), standing in front of a heap of rubble that once has been his house. He and his wife had no injuries when they found themselves outside their house after it collapsed. Others were less lucky. Six people, amongst them two children, lost their lives in this small village near ... read more

The 1965 massacres: 40 Years without Justice

The 1965 massacres: 40 Years without Justice

17 April 2006

by Fabian Junge

In the night of 30 September 1965, a group of young military officers calling itself the “30th September Movement”, kidnapped and murdered six high-ranking Generals and one Lieutenant, allegedly to prevent a coup against Indonesia’s first president Soekarno. They dumped the dead bodies in a well called Lubang Buaya on the airforce-base Halim in Jakarta, where they had barricaded themselves. On October 1 General Suharto high-handedly took command over the army and forced the ... read more
